What Kind of Fence

Hog Wire vs Cyclone Wire
Hog Wire (Year 2009)

Cyclone Wire (Year 2010)

Actually there are three choices for fencing. I can buy a Hog Wire, Cyclone Wire, or a Barb Wire. Our perimeter fence are all in barb wire to keep cows, and thieves away from our property. They will also keep the goats inside and not damage crops outside out property.

Inside your property I still have to divide it into 2 to 4. Right now I just have two divisions. I separate the males from the females. The Boer buck I have is always with the females. This way I can guarantee that the father of the kids is the Boer buck.

The divider I used at first is a hog wire because it is cheap. It is only 1,250 Pesos per roll. At first it looked beautiful then one time Billy (caretaker) reported that the Boer buck was able to insert its head in one of the holes and had a hard time pulling it. Good thing it did not break its neck!

The next bad news was young goats can make the holes bigger! Goats are actually smart! I am impressed. The primary reason why I placed this divider is now a failure. I bought 3 cyclone wires this year (2010). 1383 Pesos each. They are expensive and shorter compared to the hog wires still this kind of fence gave me peace of mind that no one will cross the line.

I want to make sure that the goats I sell are guaranteed 50% and 75% Boers.

RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS:

The fence should be 4 Feet in height.

How It Started

INTRODUCTION

It all started when my parents left the Philippines to work in the United States first quarter of the year 2008. My father allowed me to take care of the farm while he's not around.

The farm has 100+ of 25+ years old Mango trees. Other trees such as chico, durian, atis, duhat, rambutan, siniguelas, bayabas, saging, papaya, and marang are all scattered in the farm. We also have goats and they were 10 native goats and 1 Boer buck when my parents left. The buck was sold to Papa by Richard Eary for only 5K Pesos ($116)! That's cheap! The price should have been 15K ($348) to 25K ($581) but Richard wanted to help Papa.

This is how my goat business started. Right now I have already produced hundred plus goats since the beginning. We have been blessed to have Richard Eary as a friend who sold cheap Boers to us. I am also thankful for Billy for taking care of the goats while I work in Manila. I promised myself that I will help people by selling affordable goats like the experience we had with Richard Eary. I will also share my techniques on handling this business.
